The total economic output of Sichuan Province (in simplified Chinese四川省) in 1995 ranked ninth in the country. According to the preliminary results of accounting, in 2008, total GDP of Sichuan reached 12,506.3 billion yuan, which had an increase of 9.5%. The primary industry had got production of 236.62 billion yuan, having an increase of 3.0%. For the secondary industry, the production increased 12.9% from last year up to 579.01 billion yuan. On the other hand, the tertiary production got 435 billion yuan, having an increase of 8.3%. GDP per capita reached 15,378 yuan, which had an increase of 9.7%.

Compared with other provinces, the pace of economic development of Sichuan was after the migraine. At the same time, the agricultural economy in Sichuan Province was quite large and the proportion of it is very high. Therefore, people usually regard this province as a major agricultural province. Between the 29 years from 1979 to 2007, GDP average annual growth rate at constant price was 9.0 percent, which is 25th in China and is lower than 9.8 percent, the national average value. From 1978 to 2008, the ranking of the total GDP of Sichuan went up and down between 6th and 9th. In 1978, it ranked the sixth and in 1985, it ranked the eighth. Since 1995, the position was stable at 9th.

In the past 29 years, Sichuan’s economic growth rate had got 13 years which were lower than the national average and 16 years being above the average. Therefore, it is obvious that Sichuan Province’s economic development was not really good. One of the reasons is that Sichuan had focused on development of primary industry, like farming. In the past, it was very important and contributed a lot of Sichuan’s development. However, in recent years, development of secondary and tertiary industries had become the most important for China but Sichuan was not able to shift the focus. Therefore, unless there is such a change, Sichuan might not be able to catch up the nation’s development and promote its rankings.

Sichuan Province (in simplified Chinese 四川省) is also called Chuan or Shu. This province is a region in southwest China having the provincial capital located at Chengdu. Sichuan as a result of a long history and rich and beautiful scenery, is always known as the “Land of Abundance.” During the North Song Period, the Emperor divided the Chuan Ja Road into 4 paths, and they are called the “Four Chuan Roads”. It comes the name of Sichuan, because “Si” in Chinese actually has the meaning of “Four”. Another saying for the origin of the name of Sichuan Province is that the territory of Sichuan has four main Rivers, including the Minjiang, Tuojiang, Jialing River and Wujiang River. In the past, people regard “River” as “Chuan” in Chinese and therefore, it comes the name of Sichuan.

No matter which one of the real origin of the name of this province, what we know nowadays is that Sichuan province is having a subtropical weather and because of the terrain and the turn of the impact of the monsoon circulation, the climate in Sichuan is very complex.
Generally speaking, the eastern part of Sichuan Basin is a sub-tropical humid climate while the western plateau area is affected by the terrain, and as it is mainly in the vertical climatic zones in the region from the south to the north, the climate type was having a gradual transition from subtropical to sub-frigid zone, and at the vertical direction the distribution of climate was from the subtropical zone to the various climate types. The sunshine of the Sichuan Basin ranges from 900 to 1600 hours in a year, which is the province with least sunshine in China.

However, it is clear that Sichuan is one of the most popular provinces in China. Every year, there are millions of people visiting Sichuan. They come from China, as well as foreign countries. It is clear that Sichuan has a very great potential to grow if it could focus on the right direction of development.

Nenjiang Province (in simplified Chinese 嫩江省) is one of the nine eastern provinces in the Republic of China. People sometimes would call this province “Nen” for short and the provincial capital of Nenjiang Province was located at Qiqihar. The province is called Nenjiang Province because Nenjiang, a river, is running through the whole territory of this province.

Nenjiang Province has an area of 77,326 square kilometers. At the east of the junction, this province is connected to the Jiang Province, and the southern part of it is near the Songjiang Province, Jilin Province and Liaoning Province while the western part of this province is near the Xing’an province. North of the Nenjiang Province was the Heilongjiang Province.

In fact, the area of this province is mainly plains, in addition to the west close to Daxinganling which is hilly. The whole territory is part of the Songliao Plain. Nenjiang (some people also call it Nen River) and the Hulan River are the main rivers running through this province, these two rivers actually belong to the Songhua River range. The Nenjiang Province had a continental climate, with annual rainfall of about 400 mm. Within this province, there are a lot of black soil zones, and the soil is very fertile and is suitable for farming and grazing.

Therefore, it is not hard to understand that the people living in that area were quite peaceful. They could feed on their own easily with the cattle as well as the crops. They do not need to trade for a long distance for what they need for their basic life. They could simply trade within a village in which some grow crops and some graze cattle. Even during the war time, when roads to other provinces were blocked or full of danger, people in Nenjiang Province could still survive because even though they are isolated in a town, they could still get all the basic necessities for their life.

In 1949, after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, this province was abolished and the land became the land of Heilongjiang Province.

Chahar Province (in simplified Chinese 察哈爾省) was built in 1912. It was one of the old provincial-level administrative regions of the Republic of China. Chahar Province, or “Cha” for short, is named after the Mongolian group. The provincial capital of Chahar Province was Zhangjiakou. It is one of the four provinces of the Saibei Provinces. Chahar Zhang, the anti-Japanese hero, served as the governor of this province at that time.

In fact, during the Qing period, this place was not a province of China. Instead, it was called “Cheung Hang Special Administrative Region.”, which was named after the famous general Cheung Hang.

In two years of the Republic of China in 1913, this piece of land was changed into particular areas and there are six towns and 11 counties, namely Zhangbei, Duolun, Guyuan, Shun Dao, Baochang, Kangbao, Hing An, Katalin , Jining, Fengzhen and Leung City.

The area of this province was about 278,957 square kilometers and according to the population statistics in 1947, the first half of the year the province was having population of 2,114,288 people, and for the second half there were 2,150,054 people living in the province. As there is a relatively constant number of people living in this province, it is believed that the Province was free from war or less affected by it. It is because it is very clear that once there are wars, people would try to escape from the place and move to other safer places. Therefore, during the civil war period of China in 1947, the population of this province was still quite stable, so we could conclude that this province is less affected by the war.

Before the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, the neighboring provinces of this province were Mongolia, Xing’an Province, northern Liaoning province, Rehe Province, Hebei Province, Shanxi Province, Suiyuan Province.

In 1952, under the new planning of the People’s Republic of China, this province was abolished and its land is divided into different parts and was grouped with other provinces like the Inner Mongolia. Some of the areas had become Beijing’s area.

Songjiang Province (in simplified Chinese 松江省) is one of the provincial-level administrative regions of the Republic of China. It is located in northeast China and it is one of nine provinces in the eastern China. People sometime would call the province “Song” for short. The provincial capital of Songjiang Province was Mudanjiang.
In fact, the naming of the province comes from the important Songhua Rivers, because “jiang” in China actually has the meaning of “River”.

Talking about the geographical information of this province, the province is mainly composed of hills and mountains. The Changbai Mountain vein runs through the whole territory of the province. Northern part of this province is the Songliao Plain, and south-east side of it is the Tumen River Plain, whereas the central plains have Mudanjiang Valley, which is also the main essence of the province. Inside the province, there are some important lakes like the Jingpohu lake as well as the Changbaishan Tianchi.

According to the population statistics in 1947, at the first half of year, there were 4,535,092 people living in the province while during the second half there were only 2,570,806 people. There is a very great drop in population and there are some reasons. To start with, we must understand the background of this province in 1947. In 1947, it was the Chinese civil war, and there were a lot of war zones all over China and in this time, the Songjiang Province was also one of the battlefields. Therefore, some people were killed in this region and it contributed to the drop of the population. Of course, it was hard to imagine that millions of people were killed during the war. There are actually some other reasons. As mentioned above, that was the war period, and so governance would inevitably become a bit worse, and the immigration and emigration control would be loose. Therefore, it was also believed that people had moved from this province to other provinces to try to get rid of the cruel wars.

Anyway, in 1949, after the establishment of People’s Republic of China, this province was abolished and was turned to part of the Jilin Province.

Suiyuan province (in simplified Chinese 绥远省)was one of the four Saibei Provinces during the Republic of China Period, together with the Rehe Province, Chahar Province and Ningxia Province. The short form for this province is “Sui”. The provincial capital of Suiyuan was called Gui Sui, which is now called the Hohhot. This province is located in the middle part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The total area of this province is 329397.19 square kilometers, and the territory of this province was mainly made up of plateau as the main body. It can also be divided into three parts. The first part is the part of the northern Mongolian Plateau. The main feature of this part is surely the Gobi Desert, which is very well-known. In fact, this area is very rich in mineral resources, and the well-known Bayan Obo town of Minerals is also located here.

The middle part of this province is connected through the Yellow River, and it results in the formation of the Loop area. There are the front and the back loops in this region and there are a lot of people living in this region. Actually, as it is near to the river, most people would choose to live here because they could reach water sources easily when they need to wash clothes, boil drinking water, cooking, etc.

Lastly, the southern part of the Province was mainly composed of the Ordos Plateau and there, you would be able to find the tomb of Genghis Khan, who founded the Yuen Dynasty.

In fact, during the Qing Dynasty, this piece of land was part of the Mongolia. Since the general stationing here is called Suiyuan, people call this area as Suiyuan. In modern China, leaders decided to rename this area as a Province and therefore, it became the Suiyuan Province. During the Sino-Japanese War, this Province was attacked and conquered. However, the armed forces and also the citizens in this province strived to fight against the Japanese soldiers. Finally, after the war ended, they regained their land.

Shaanxi Province (in simplified Chinese陕西省) or Shaan for short, is a province of China located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. The provincial capital of Shaanxi Province is located at Xi’an.

In fact, the origin of the names of Shaanxi, is actually related to the relevant historical changes. Nowadays, in a town in southwest Henan Province, there is a place called Shaan Yuen. During the Zhou Dynasty, this Shaan Yuen was used as a division line. According to some historical document, it was said that “Starting from the Shaan eastward, the land would be for Zhou Noble, and for those located west of the Shaan, it would be long to Shaw Noble.” During the Song Dynasty, the Shaanxi area was announced to be “Road”, which is equivalent to Province nowadays.

In accordance with the Pinyin translation, if written, Shaanxi (shǎnxī) has a different tune with a homonym of the neighboring provinces Shanxi (shānxī) and so this name would usually make foreigners confused. Therefore, the government decided to add a “a” for Shaanxi so that there would be a better distinction.

In late 2005, the resident population of Shaanxi Province was 37,200,000 people. The birth rate was 10.02 ‰, and the mortality rate was 6.01 ‰. On the other hand, the natural growth rate of this province was 4.01 ‰. All these show that the province is growing quite stably and healthily.

In fact, there are a lot of universities and tertiary institutions in Shaanxi Province. They are trying to educate students with different talent. For example, there are some universities focusing on teaching technological knowledge to students and there are some universities specially designed for people to learn more about how technology helps with agriculture. These universities are very important to the sustainable development of the Province because with them, we could ensure that our future generation would be equipped with different kinds of skills and techniques and they would be able to help contribute to the growth of this province so that this province could get into top in China.

Qinghai Province (in simplified Chinese 青海省) actually has a low economic output. As it mainly relies on local mineral resources, ecology and biological resources, the development has great potential but yet now, it was still slow. On the other hand, this province actually has comparative advantage in industries like chemical fertilizers, animal husbandry, non-ferrous metals, etc. In 2007, the province’s GDP reached 76.096 billion yuan, which has an increase of 12.5%. In 2006, the official opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway took place and it made Qinghai’s tourism, special crafts and farm produce processing industry gradually develop rapidly.

In fact, Qinghai has a quite rich source of oil, which is mainly found in the Qaidam Basin. Since 1954, the exploration and exploitation of petroleum in Qaidam Basin had started. So far, Qinghai’s oil and gas output had reached 4.59 million tons. It is clearly good.

In order to make Qinghai Province a more prosperous province, some basic infrastructures should be established so allow people or businessmen to use so that they would be able to set up their business branches in Qinghai more easily. If there are no basic infrastructures like airport or well roads being provided for the businessmen, they would hardly choose this province as a production base. Therefore, the first step for this province to achieve success should be the basic construction.

Of course, careful planning should be conducted. In Qinghai, there are some precious rare animals and if they are harmed by the construction of the infrastructures, it is clear that Qinghai would lose attractions. Therefore, a balance should be worked out so that the environment could be protected and also the economy of this province would be developed well.

At present, visiting Qinghai is not very easy because the traffic to it is not very convenient. Therefore, another thing that the government should strive to do is to provide a convenient transport network. In the future, it is hoped that Qinghai would develop gradually and turn into one of the influential provinces in China.

Hubei Province (in simplified Chinese 湖北省) has several neighboring areas including the Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Anhui Province, Henan Province, Shaanxi Province as well as Chongqing Province. Hubei Province is located at the central part of China which is at the south of the “Mountains – the Huaihe River,” demarcation line. Therefore, the province has a sub-tropical monsoon climate.

Hubei Province is surrounded by mountains at three sides. The western part of it is the Dabashan area, and the north-eastern part of it is the Dabie Mountain area. The east part of this province is facing the Fau Shan hills while the south-central part of it is facing the Jianghan Plain. In fact, the Yangtze River runs across the province, and there are a lot of mountains and gaps of the River being located in the territory of Hubei Province.

At the eastern section of Dabashan, there was the Shennongjia which was protected by the surrounding mountains during the ancient ice age and therefore, a lot of plants and animals could survive there at that time and the remains of them contributed to the fossils which we could find nowadays. Therefore, this is one of the important sites in terms of archeology.

As mentioned above, Hubei Province had a sub-tropical monsoon climate. Therefore, you would be able to see four distinct seasons in this province and so you should be careful not to misjudge the seasons and bring the wrong clothing to this province when you are going to have a visit here.

In fact, Hubei Province has a lot of natural resources. For example, there are a lot of coal mines in this province and there are also a lot of productions of salts, bronze, and other elements or metals. Therefore, Hubei province is really quite prosperous and in recent years, more and more businessmen had decided to set up branches of their companies or even headquarters in order to facilitate their business operation.

There are also a lot of attractions of this province, like the convenient traffic as well as the rapid development of infrastructure.
